ncftp-2.4.3: description + notes

NcFTP is a user interface to the Internet standard File Transfer Protocol. This program allows a user to transfer files to and from a remote network site, and offers additional features that are not found in the standard interface, ftp.

The program runs in one of three modes: visual mode, line mode, and colon mode. The default mode is visual mode. This is a full-screen interface that uses the curses library. With visual mode, you edit the program's settings with a nice screen interface. Line mode is a no-frills command-line interface that looks like ftp. The third mode, colon mode, refers to the program's ability to do a quick retrieve of a file directly from your shell command line, without going into the program's own shell. This mode is useful for shell scripts.

Note: Three variations of ncftp are available in this package.

If you choose to install one of the firewall-aware clients you'll need the usual SOCKS environment variables (SOCKS_NS and SOCKS_SERVER or SOCKS5_SERVER) and configuration file (/etc/socks.conf or /etc/libsocks5.conf). See the SOCKS release notes for details.
